Round-up for May 2015
Vaico transmission filter kits now available
Transmission filters are designed to keep the transmission fluid clean. They can be polluted as a result of material wear and dirt passing through the filter, resulting in clogging of the control unit and leading to gear failure. It is vital that the transmission fluid is kept clean so that the valve body and other key components do not become clogged, making them inoperable.
Vaico advises changing the gearbox oil and replacing the filter kit, generally between 5 to 6 years or between mileages of 40,000 to 60,000 miles. Vaico transmission filter kits include all seals and installation materials and are tested according to German quality standards.
Range highlights: Audi A3, A4, A6, Q5 & Q7; VW Golf, Passat, Polo & Transporter; BMW 3, 5 & 7 Series; Mini Cooper and Vauxhall Astra, Corsa, Vectra & Zafira.

Remy Electric Steering Column Poster launched
Remy has produced a new A2-sized electric steering column poster, designed to familiarise the technician to this important new technology and to explain how simple they are to install.
The new poster highlights the ease of fitment, with no hydraulic pipes, fluids or fumes and without the need to tie up a ramp; all that is required is an up-to-date diagnostic tool. It also emphasises that steering systems are safety critical and states that Remy makes no compromise on quality during the remanufacturing process.
The new electric steering column poster is now available from your local FPS Branch.

ABS (sensor/reluctor) rings
ABS rings are fitted to either the driveshaft or the wheel hub of a car and work together with ABS sensors to provide wheel speed information to the ECU. There are two types of ABS sensors: passive and active.
Failure and replacement:
ABS rings are susceptible to corrosion and damage and they can often be missing from new CV joints. The rings are easily damaged when removed; therefore the best practice would be to fit a new ring. A warning light will come up on the dashboard if the ring is faulty and will result in an MOT failure. A damaged ABS ring can only be identified by visual inspection.
Product highlights:
• ADM57101 – Ford Maverick (2001-2004)
• V10-1494 – Audi (1995-2001)
ABS rings can be found on MAM Autocat+ and the F:Drive under Hydraulics>Brake Hydraulics.
