Mean-Mower The Worlds fastest lawn mower
The ignition specialist – renowned for its cutting-edge technology – exhibited Honda’s NGK-sparked Mean Mower which holds the Guinness World title for the fastest lawnmower, averaging a staggering 116.57mph.
Mean Mower was designed and built in the UK by Honda (UK)’s British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) partner, Team Dynamics.
The team re-engineered a Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor from the ground-up, adding an all-new fabricated chassis, custom-made from 4130 chromoly (high carbon steel) to provide a strong, safe but very light platform. A 1000cc engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm was used, along with a bespoke suspension and wheels from an ATV.
To qualify for the record it needed to cut grass and to look like a lawnmower; both of which it did successfully.
Mark Hallam, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager, said: “The Mean Mower certainly attracted a lot of interest at Saltex with visitors keen to examine the mower and to look at the film of it breaking the world record.
“The horticultural sector is a growing market for ourselves where through extensive research and development we have produced a range of spark plugs specifically aimed at the horticultural market where their fast heating makes them ideal for engines that often have to work in harsh conditions.
“Our staff were kept very busy answering queries from visitors about our spark plugs and spark plug covers and we gave out lots of catalogues which outline the range of products available to the horticultural market.”
Ignition specialist NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd continues to set the pace more than 40 years after being incorporated as a UK subsidiary company of Japan.
