Heavy Duty Coil Springs
Kilen currently offers heavy-duty (HD) coil springs alternatives to standard rear coil springs through FPS for the oncoming caravanning season.
The range of more than 370* Kilen HD coil springs are 15-30% stronger than standard coil springs (vehicle dependent) and are able to support a heavier load without compromising vehicle handling. They are also designed to have a progressive spring rate, meaning that resistance increases as the load increases, allowing the HD springs to be used even when the vehicle is unloaded.
Kilen HD coil springs are designed for use with caravans, where extra stress is put on the rear springs, that can result in sag (long-term shortening) and an increase in the risk of premature breakage.
Standard coil springs are unable to return the vehicle to its original ride height in such situations, adversely affecting vehicle handling, unless the suspension is changed. Kilen HD coil springs work with standard shock absorbers, so further suspension upgrades are not required. Most HD coil springs are also slightly shorter than standard coil springs to ensure the car does not sit too high when unloaded.
It is vital that HD coil springs are fitted in axle pairs:
- to improve vehicle handling at the correct vehicle ride height
- to avoid potentially severe safety risks such as less responsive steering, less secure road holding and increased braking distance
Kilen HD coil springs are catalogued on MAM Autocat, the F:Drive and come with a 3 year warranty on parallel wire and 2 year warranty on tapered wire springs. Speak to your FPS representative to know more.
*At least one heavy-duty application for each part.
