Goodwood Festival of Speed

Leading ignition specialist NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd attracted crowds of car and motorcycle enthusiasts to its Pavilion at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The supplier of original-equipment (OE) spark plugs, glow plugs and NTK sensors also played host to more than 500 VIP customers when it appeared alongside many of the World’s leading vehicle manufacturers and two and four-wheel motorsport teams and stars at the four-day event in Sussex.

Visitors were able to test their skills against the clock on the NGK Spark Plug Challenge, two driving simulators and take part in the NGK Pitstop Q&A, with contestants competing for top prizes.

Mark Hallam, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager, said the event was a huge success: “We were the only major component supplier to exhibit at Goodwood and our Pavilion was busy over the four days of the show with our invited hospitality guests and the general public.

“We think it is important to have a major presence at the show alongside many of the vehicle manufacturers and race teams we supply with our OE components. Our interactive competitions were very popular and the cars and motorcycles that we had on display created a lot of interest.”

NGK sponsors the legendary Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team and the Pavilion featured an F1 Ferrari SF13-T which was fitted with NGK spark plugs, together with an M-Sport Ford Fiesta World Rally Championship car which is fitted with NGK spark plugs and NTK Lambda sensors.

The two-wheel scene was represented by Valentino Rossi’s Aprilia RS125 GP RSR number two bike from the 1997 season when he won 11 of the 15 races, all sparked by NGK, plus an NGK concept 500cc Speedway bike.
Renowned British motorcycle racer Maria Costello MBE met fans on the Pavilion over the last two days of the show. Her NGK-sponsored Kawasaki ER6 Supertwin ‘Pizzaracebike’ was on display at the show together with a Lawn Mower fitted with NGK spark plugs which featured in a 2200-mile ride round the coast of the UK to raise funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis UK charity.

NGK staff were also on-hand to meet customers and the public and distribute NGK ‘goodie bags’ and merchandise, raising funds for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Stuart Bayne, who is Sales Manager – North for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, last year completed an 1100-kilometre sponsored cycle ride through Europe to raise £17,066.98 for the charity, and has plans to stage another fund-raising event later this year.
