Greg Hancock retains his position
NGK-sponsored triple world Speedway champion Greg Hancock has retained his position at the top of the 2016 championship leader board after getting through to the final of the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff.
Although the 46-year-old finished fourth in the race, the 10 points he scored during the meeting at the Principality Stadium has kept him three points ahead of defending champion Tai Woffinden who finished second in Cardiff, scoring 15 points.
It was a mixed day for the three NGK-sponsored riders at the meeting, with Australian Jason Doyle making the semi-finals and scoring 12 points to move up to third place in the championship while Briton Chris Harris scored just a single point to remain in 15th position.
NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said: “It was a shame the trio couldn’t replicate their performance at the previous GP in Prague when they took the first three places. However, the event was a great occasion and the atmosphere in Cardiff was fantastic.
“Both Greg and Jason rode well and have maintained their strong positions in the championship. Chris had a day to forget but I’m sure he’ll come back strong in the remaining meetings.”
The event was won by Swedish star Antonio Lindback who is now fourth in the world championship.
NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd has a long and successful partnership with Speedway and not only sponsors the three GP riders, but also Chris Harris’s Coventry Bees Speedway team.
