Heads to Portugal for pre season testing

Speedworks LMP3 driver Jack Butel recently undertook three days of intensive pre season testing at the picturesque Portimão circuit in southern Portugal. The Jerseyman completed extensive running in the sports prototype ahead of his new racing challenge, the UK LMP3 Cup. 

The 20-year-old got his first taste of the Speedworks Ligier JS P3 LMP3 car at Brands Hatch last month, with short shakedown runs to acclimatize himself with his new mount for 2017.
 
With the British weather unpredictable at this time of year, Jack and his Speedworks Motorsport team went in search of warmer climates, with Portimão becoming the Channel Islanders home for most of last week.

“The test in Portugal was vital ahead of the new season,” explained Butel. ”The test went really well and I think I learnt a lot and the team were really pleased with my feedback as we developed the car further. 

“We did a lot of simulation work. Race stints, qualifying runs and consistency running. We have got a lot closer to where I would like the car to be and feel a lot more comfortable after last week.”

Jack’s first run at the iconic Portimão circuit was his first time on Portuguese soil and the young-gun loved every minute behind the wheel.

“Portimão had everything. Some really fast bits and tight and technical sections with a lot of undulation. The weather gave us everything. Really sunny days, overcast and even some rain so we experienced all conditions ahead of the new season.”

Jack is now preparing further ahead of the opening round of the UK LMP3 Cup at Donington on the 22/23 April. Butel and Speedworks will be hoping to squeeze in another test or two ahead of the inaugural season in the exciting new series.
