Quality and Depth in Filter Range
Under its respected Borg & Beck brand, First Line Ltd offers a range of more than 950 Oil, Air, Fuel and Cabin Filters for automotive and light commercial vehicle (LCV) applications, which provide independent workshops with a premium quality solution for the vast majority of popular vehicles.
Naturally, the filtration programme is constantly expanding to ensure distributors can maintain a relevant stock profile that supports the everyday requirements of their workshop customers. Recent additions include the Oil Filter, Borg & Beck reference BFO4208, for the Lexus IS200, IS300 and Toyota Auris from 2006-2013, as well as the Corolla from 2006-present and Yaris from 2005-2012. The Fuel Filter, BFF8173, which fits the Ford Transit engine, the Air Filter, BFA2411, to fit the Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro and Renault Trafic 1.6-litre from 2014-present and the Cabin Filter, BFC1177, to fit the Nissan Micra and Note 1.2-litre from 2010-present.
Obviously when it comes to Filters, premium quality is key. So, Borg & Beck components have several key elements to ensure that they function correctly and will preserve the life of the engine, which is why, in keeping with company policy, the entire range is manufactured to its exacting standards and undergoes rigorous product testing to ensure the consistency of performance that is expected with a premium product.
Whilst a relatively inexpensive product in itself, a filter’s function is to protect vital engine components or indeed the occupants of the vehicle in the case of cabin filters. These ensure the air inside the car is clean and free from any undesired airborne particles, which could include carbon, pollen or other debris. Borg & Beck Cabin Filters are produced from specifically selected synthetic media that not only filters out larger particles, but also captures smaller ones through an electrostatic charge in the fibres of the filter.
The UK has been very slow to adopt the ‘European’ approach of replacing the cabin filter regularly, but almost all vehicle manufacturers now recommend annual replacement regardless of mileage. A functioning cabin filter keeps the air inside the car clean, but also allows a regular airflow, reducing condensation, which stops windows misting and the introduction of damp/mould. It is often worth pointing this out to customers when they order a service kit and use the opportunity to upsell a cabin filter too.
The remaining filter types (Oil, Air and Fuel) protect the engine from damage and premature wear, so as such, are vital for the longevity of the vehicle. It is easy to overlook the importance of the correct specification filter, but modern vehicles often work in arduous conditions, such as extreme temperatures and polluted air, whilst also being subject to extended service intervals. Many fuel filters are now on intervals of 100,000 miles or more. Furthermore, the average car draws in 10,000 litres of air for every 1 litre of fuel consumed, so it is easy to see why premium product with the right specification is so important.
Oil Filters are a prime example of this, with the packaging problems encountered when designing a vehicle, the oil filter can end up being located in variety of positions and orientations depending on the space available. This means that they have to deal with heat, road debris and even being mounted sideways or upside-down. To ensure that the oil remains in the filter and prevents dry starts, Borg & Beck Filters are fitted with a stand pipe or an anti-drain valve. The filter media is specifically selected to match the VM’s preferred grade of oil to provide superior filtration and the spin-on filters incorporate a powder-coated, corrosion resistant coating for maximum resilience to road debris.
Taking into account these factors it essential to fit a premium quality filter, which is designed and manufactured with the right features for the right vehicles such as those offered in the Borg and Beck range. Borg and Beck Filters all meet the quality specification set by the OE item in accordance with the EU motor vehicle Block Exemption Regulation (BER) 461/2010.
