Launches two new products

To bolster their existing bottom end engine repair products, belting and timing chain kit ranges, FAI have launched a range of Torsional Vibration Dampers and a compact range of Oil Control Valves.

To enhance the FAI timing chain kit program, FAI have introduced a selection Oil Control Valves (OCV); a critical part used in every engine that is fitted with variable valve technology (VVT). A single control valve will regulate the supply of oil to a designated VVT hub, to advance or restrict the timing by altering the camshaft angle position. Controlled by the ECU, the OCV receives electrical signals, instructing it to adjust the oil flow as required, in accordance to current driving conditions.

Because VVT hubs rely on a regulated and pressurised oil flow to operate correctly and continuously; if a new TCK is fitted and the old OCV is not working correctly, the VVT hub cannot operate correctly causing an avoidable failure. FAI recommend checking the Oil Control valves when undertaking a TCK replacement as these are often overlooked and a potential cause of the initial failure.

To further supplement their range of bottom end repair and belting products, FAI have also introduced a range of Torsional Vibration Dampers, comprising of 50 part numbers, all covering the most important and popular vehicle applications.

The purpose of the vibration damper is to minimise the influence of the torsional vibrations developing in the crankshaft, so that the material stresses arising from these conditions are kept within permissible limits. Each pulley in the FAI TVD range is made to OE specification and includes the rubber harmonic damper element of the construction; something that is crucial in the correct function of a TVD. Using a pulley with a rubber damper will almost certainly increase crankshaft bearing wear, and could lead to early failure of the crankshaft or bearings. As a result, FAI recommend that only a pulley with a harmonic damper is fitted.
