To go the distance at Donington
Racing driver Jack Butel is set to go the distance at Donington Park, the final round of the Henderson Insurance UK LMP3 Cup. The Jerseyman has shared the driving duties with a variety of teammates throughout the 2017 season, but for the championship finale, Butel will compete both hour-long races solo, as he looks to build his endurance driving.
The 21-year-old Speedworks Motorsport driver will contest the final rounds of the season as the sole driver for the team as he goes in search of further podiums to back up the four he has already achieved this season.
The Channel Islander has been one of the brightest prospects in the inaugural UK LMP3 Cup campaign and has enjoyed a successful switch from the cut and thrust single-seater racing to the smooth and consistent sports car style of driving.
Donington is the last event of the season. Jack has claimed two third placed finishes, two second place finishes and the Ligier JS-P3 LMP3 driver will be giving everything he can to stand on the top step of the podium this weekend.
“I am very excited about this weekend and it’s a great opportunity to build up my endurance driving,” enthused Jack. “I have done full race distances in testing earlier in the year which will help greatly, but it will be a completely different experience in a race meeting.
“I will have to remain sharp for an hour and be consistent lap after lap to be in with a chance of a top result. I have learnt a lot this year and I have shown I can fight towards the front. I will be aiming for another podium but it would be lovely to sneak a win on the final event of the year.”
The final round of the UK LMP3 season will take place on 16/17 September at Donington Park in Derbyshire. This wont be the final event of the year for Jack, however, as some exciting news will be on the horizon for the Jerseyman. Details will be confirmed later this month.
