Total launches reformulated TOTAL QUARTZ oil for downsized engines and hybrids

Total Lubricants – the only integrated oil business producing lubricants in the UK - has reformulated its TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 FUTURE FGC 5W-30 engine oil. The new formulation better controls low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in turbocharged, direct-injected gasoline engines, and maintains a higher level of detergency.

TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 FUTURE FGC 5W-30 has been developed in response to the increasing number of downsized and hybrid engines in the vehicle parc. The new oil will keep engines cleaner and operating at peak efficiency and power, while reducing instances of LSPI, a phenomenon that results in a louder engine, but at its worst can cause engine damage.

General Motors has changed its engine oil requirements from Dexos2 to Dexos1 due to the LSPI issues on some modern engines – TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 FUTURE FGC 5W-30 has been formulated to this specification, adding to its extensive list of international standards and manufacturer approvals.

These include General Motors Dexos1 Gen2, Ford WSS-M2C 946-A and Chrysler MS-6395. It is also backwards compatible with American Petroleum Institute (API) and International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee (ISLAC) sequences for older vehicles, and compatible with a long list of American and Asian manufacturers. OEM partnerships are key to the TOTAL QUARTZ range, as Total is the oil partner to 22 per cent of the UK’s car parc.

TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 FUTURE FGC 5W-30 is also compatible with downsized engines, those equipped with Stop & Start technologies and turbochargers, and both hybrid and electrified vehicles. This is thanks to TOTAL QUARTZ 9000 FUTURE FGC 5W-30’s synthetic molecular structure, which reduces internal friction in new generations of engines, improving fuel economy and bolstering engine power.

The 5W-30 engine oil grade and special additives improve cold-start performance, and a low phosphorus content prevents damage in three-way catalytic converters. It also reduces NOx, HC and CO2 emissions.

Total has had a UK presence for over 50 years, manufacturing and developing cutting-edge products from its own plant in West Yorkshire. Combined with the largest field coverage through its expert sales, technical and after-sales teams, from track to road, TOTAL QUARTZ is the winning engine oil, and trusted by the most demanding experts, including top racers, car maintenance professionals, and millions of drivers.
