NGK-sponsored motorcycle racer Chrissy Rouse has scored his first points in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, earning the praise of his new team boss
The 22-year-old made it into qualifying two on his Halsall Team Racing Suzuki and then bagged 11th and 14th places at Brands Hatch in only his second Superbike meeting.
Team boss Colin Wright said: “It’s been a good day and the improvements by everyone are clear to see. We need to remember that this was only our second race meeting together, it was just Chrissy’s second time on a Superbike and it’s been very much a case of us all still getting to know each other and how we all work. Chrissy has once again shown me that he has what it takes and deserves to be in this class.”
Chrissy recently made his debut for the team at Knockhill in Scotland and although he failed to finish in both races said it was “a dream come true.”
Speaking after his Brands Hatch appearance, he said: “I’m really happy, it’s been a fantastic weekend and I’m pleased with the results, particularly the first race. I thoroughly enjoyed both of the races as I feel I’ve learnt so much more about the bike.
“Of course, there is still a long way to go but I’m thrilled that I can take home points in just my second BSB race, and to know I was so close to the top 10 is a real boost for me.
“I’m definitely making good progress. I’m learning more about the Superbike and how I need to ride it to get the best from it, and the improvement from my first race a fortnight ago is clear. I’m really excited about doing it all over again at the next round.”
Ignition specialist NGK has been a long-standing supporter of Chrissy, who hails from Burnopfield near Newcastle and is due to start teacher training soon after completing his mathematics degree at Newcastle University.
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “It was a fantastic performance by Chrissy at Brands Hatch especially as it was only his second Superbike meeting. I am sure he will continue to impress over the rest of the season.”
