ENJOYS ANOTHER SOLID WEEKEND IN THE BTCC
Adam Morgan and his WIX Racing team enjoyed yet another solid point scoring weekend in the British Touring Car Championship at the fastest racing circuit in the country, Thruxton.
Adam had the WIX Racing A Class Mercedes hooked up pretty well in the two free pre-qualifying sessions ending the first practice in 8th and the second in 5th. He qualified on the 5th row in 10th around the 2.36 abrasive circuit, only 0.783 of a second off pole position, an acceptable and impressive result considering there was absolutely no set up data for the car and the team were unable to test at the venue before the Championship began.
Adam along with the rest of the field suffered with severe tyre wear over the brutal kerbs and infamous track surface in the first race but still managed to bring his WIX Racing Mercedes home undamaged in 9th place.
Another steadfast performance in the second race saw Adam score yet more points and finish one place better in 8th, Adam spent the majority of the race in a ‘train’ like tussle of five cars headed by Jason Plato who was extremely wide for the entire race.
The reverse grid procedure as usual caused fireworks. Adam started the race from the second row in 3rd position and a brilliant start by Adam saw him hold his position until Rob Collard collided with him going into the rapid Church Corner, the fastest Corner of any track in the Country. A fantastic save by Adam kept him on the track as many other cars were forced to take evasive action. In a race that was marred by many incidents, crashes and safety car periods, Adam again drove superbly and brought the damaged WIX Racing A Class Mercedes home in a very creditable 8th place.
“It’s been a steady weekend all in all, consistency is key in a 10 round 30 race championship. I can’t pretend not to be a little disappointed with the collision from behind in the 3rd race, we have been improving the Car all weekend and I felt I had the pace for a podium finish but, 3 points finishes are significant and to be in the top ten of the most fiercely contested Championship in the UK is fantastic for us all. I would like to thank the team for their unrivalled diligence, commitment and effort” comments Adam Morgan, Driver.
Out of the 9 Championship races held so far this year Adam and his WIX Racing team have finished them all and scored points in 8 of them. Adams all action, committed driving style sees him currently 9th in the Championship on 49 points and his car is the only new entry in the top 25. Adam is 5th in the Independent Drivers’ Standings 4 points in front of ex-BTCC Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi. The WIX Racing team are 7th in the team Standings with 52 points and remain the leading single car Championship entry.
Round 4 of the Championship heads to the tricky, undulating Oulton Park in Cheshire, this is Adams home event, on the 8th of June. Again live coverage of the event will be screened on ITV4 uninterrupted throughout the day.
