New Rod Link Design
Why have FAI identified the need for a new design?
Original equipment link rods are recognised in the industry as adequate for the vehicle, however there are areas of the ball pin bearing (plastic cap style) that can be improved upon in terms of longevity and strength.
FAI is always keen to develop and improve its range with innovative ideas. Therefore, the Development Team is introducing a new design link rod to its comprehensive range of Steering and Suspension that will incorporate these improvements. The part numbers selected to be in the new design are where the OE equivalent plastic cap style have shown particular areas of stress.
Key features will include reduced rotational torque and improved bearing and ball pin housing design. The rotational torque efficiency has been improved by 55% which means that the ball pin will rotate more freely and consistently leading to less resistance and improved longevity. The ball pin pull out force test has been improved by 12% . This has been achieved with the introduction of a new system whereby the ball pin is clamped with a machine pressed insert into the bearing cup. This ensures a stronger structure which reduces the likelihood of the ball pin being pulled out.
The new design link rods are easily identifiable by the black bearing and ball pin housing with red insert and red dust cover clips.
