Morgan turns near disaster into delight at croft.

Adam Morgan produced what may be considered the drive of his British Touring Car Championship career so far, during round 5 of the BTCC held at the fantastic, action packed Croft Circuit this weekend.

The 25 year old Lancastrian picked himself up after a terrible start to the weekend. His determination, grit, attitude and aggressive flawless driving style paid dividends in front of an absolutely massive crowd that packed every corner of the track.

Qualifying: Adam was fast straight out of the blocks, the third fastest driver in both of Saturday morning’s free practice sessions. In the all-important qualifying session Adam was the victim of some unfortunate situations. On his first run he was fastest of all through the first sector, set a personal best in the second sector and was looking good for a front row position when the Toyota of Glynn Geddie spun right in front of him. Back into the pits with the lap ruined Adam again warmed his tyres and began another flying lap, fastest again in the first sector and an even better time in the second sector when the red flag was displayed for a stranded car out on track. Adam eventually had to settle for a 4th row start in 8th place. “To be honest I am a bit cheesed off” said Adam “The Team has implemented some major changes to the car and it is rapid. I felt that at least a 2nd row start was on the cards but racing is racing sometimes you get the rub of the green and sometimes you don’t. The WIX Racing A Class Mercedes is mega, has brilliant handling and pace and I can’t wait for the races tomorrow”

Race 1: Adam made a brilliant start when just after the first corner he was tagged from behind by the BMW of Nick Foster. The car was then smashed into by 5 or 6 cars behind, every panel on the left hand side of the car was damaged and it suffered structural damage. “Nick came and apologised for the incident after the race, he was hit from behind and unfortunately sent me into a high speed spin” stated Adam “The WIX Racing Mercedes is a right mess and the team have a real job on their hands to get it ready for the next race, there is massive amounts of damage. It’s very disappointing after such a positive day yesterday”

Race 2: The immaculate WIX Racing Mercedes was wheeled out of the garage well in time for race 2. The team’s mechanics had not only repaired the damage but presented her in showroom condition. Adam started from the back row of the grid, he immediately began carving his way through the field. An absolutely brilliant demonstration of skill, ability and measured aggression enabled Adam to bring home the car in 11th place overtaking 17 cars in 18 laps even after picking up yet more damage on the way. “I loved every second of that race, such a shame about the race 1 incident, I knew full well that the team had given me a podium position car this weekend, the WIX Racing Mercedes was incredible” described a pumped up Morgan “We made no changes to the cars set up as we had obviously no data from race 1. Paul Ridgway and the team have been superb again this weekend. I know it’s a cliché but I really do think I have the best engineers and mechanics in the entire paddock to support me, I really can’t thank them enough.

Race 3: After the first two incident packed, carnage filled races of the day Adam found himself back in familiar territory for the start of the day’s final race in the top ten. A good start ensured Adam held position for the first couple of laps in the WIX Racing Mercedes, he then put the hammer down and in yet another faultless driving display, where he had to defend from drivers behind while attempting to overtake slower cars in front. He was able to secure 5th place after a fantastic and perfectly timed ‘drag race’ to the line on the final lap, in which he beat the Volkswagen Passat of Jack Goff to the line by 0.001 of a second. A stunning end to Adam’s weekend and a credit to the entire WIX Racing and Ciceley Motorsport team. “It was good to collect some points again” stated the modest Morgan “The car was hooked up perfectly this weekend, we have collected lots of damage, the Ciceley Motorsport mechanics have been amazing. I was worried that race day was going to be a washout after race 1, but the WIX Racing car was just so drivable, we had decent pace from free practice 1, I can feel the car coming to me at last, the improvements made by the team are immediately measurable and their effects have been perfect. Thank you so much to everybody, I am gutted that I have to wait for 5 weeks to race it again. We are at the half point of the season and my confidence is at an all-time high and the last 5 rounds can’t come soon enough for me”

Norman Burgess Commercial and Marketing Manager: “The WIX Racing Hospitality suite was absolutely buzzing this weekend, if I had a pound for every person that had thanked me for such a superb day, I could pay for all the damage myself!!! The atmosphere in the suite after the 2nd race was fantastic, we had brilliant weather all day and the WIX Racing team’s VIP guests had a ball, we all enjoyed the day. Our team aim was to finish in the top ten with the new WIX Racing A Class Mercedes, we are back in the hunt, the hospitality package offered by the team is perfect, with every guest enjoying their time with the team”

Adam and the WIX Racing team are currently joint 12th in the Driver standings, 9th in the Independent Driver Standings, 8th in the Teams Standings and 6th in the Independent Teams Standings and remain the first single car entry in both categories.

Adam was for the second time in succession awarded the Driver of the Day award being the driver who improved his position the best during all three races, 23 places, even with retirement on the first lap of race one, he is now 3rd in the Jack Sears Trophy standings with a total of 54 overtakes.
