The Automotive Distribution Federation ADF has reproduced its leaflet on Block Exemption 2003, designed to educate motor factors, garages and the general public on their rights under the legislation. ADF is at pains to stress the four freedoms introduced by the legislation aimed at safeguarding free competition on the entire market for vehicle spare parts service and repair. On the leaflet, the ADF states that it has written confirmation from the office of fair trading (OFT) that: "Independent repairers CAN carry out normal maintenance and repair services during a vehicle's warranty period without invalidating the car company's warranty conditions. With two provisions: 1 Provided that the service is in accordance with the car companies' servicing schedules and is recorded as such. 2. Provided that the parts used are of appropriate quality and are recorded as such.'" UAN will distribute the leaflet within the next United newsletter and members should contact UAN if they require additional leaflets for customers. More in the next issue of United.
