Belt manufacturer Gates was in town to talk about new approaches to Accessory Belt Drive Systems (ABDS) maintenance.
"Belt kits have become a vital part of ABDS preventive maintenance programmes and that's why we felt that it was important for our customers to hear the reasons from the belt manufacturer," said proprietor John Franklin.

Andrew Vaux, from Gates technical Training & Support Team, told the delegates that increased temperatures, higher tension, shorter spans, smaller tensioners and pulleys, as well as tighter angled turns inside compact engine compartments mean that today's ABDS installation procedures must follow precise guidelines.

He explained that Gates had developed its new Micro-V Horizon belt specifically for the compact engines increasingly used in today's cars. Stronger, lighter, thinner, more flexible and more durable than other ABDS belts, the Micro-V Horizon matches the toughest OE criteria for the latest ABDS designs and was launched with a substantial installer support package.
