UAN approved supplier Bestplate has informed the group of the following changes to current numberplate legisation: 1. From the 1st August 2008 the Register of Number Plate Suppliers will be extended to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Applications must be received by the 1st October 2008 at the latest either by phone or post. Details are on the DVLA web site www.dvla.gov.uk and the DVLA plan to write to all concerned at the beginning of August. 2. From August 1st 2008 it will be an offence to supply illegal number plates. Illegal plates include wrongly spaced characters to spell names etc. Until now it has been the customer who was at risk of prosecution. It will now be the dealer or factor who will face the court and they could also risk losing their licence to supply plates as well as a fine. 3. From August 1st 2008 personalisation details will be restricted to the supplying outlet's name and postcode. This is a clarification of the September 2001 legislation. There is to be a period of grace until the 1st November 2008 to give time for the changes to be made and any pre-printed stock to be used up. The following will not be allowed as part of the personalisation: Web addresses Telephone numbers Manufacturer's logos Company logos Badges other than GB or National Flag Reflective with holograms etc Lip plates, badging frames and badging strips will still be permitted and anybody wishing to continue using their web address etc should change to one of these products. Software for Bestplate's Self-assembly Systems* is available, which stops anything other than legal plates being printed. This is password controlled with an administrator level to facilitate the printing of showroom plates etc, as well as genuine cherished numbers. For details of the alternative products and the software, as well as help changing your personalisation details, please contact your Bestplate Area Manager, telephone 01235 348634 or e-mail [email protected] *Not available for Keypad systems.
