FPS are aware that some Refrigerant suppliers have recently been issuing misleading information regarding regulation changes and its implications for Automotive Distributors of R134a refrigerant.

Contrary to some of the recent communications - car part distributors & wholesalers are not required to be F-Gas registered for the sale of R134a Refrigerant.

It is their customers (the workshops) only that should be F-Gas qualified. This is not a new requirement, and has been part of the EC F - Gas regulations since 2009.

F-Gas Qualifications and assessments are required under the below circumstances;

The charging only of vehicle's system does not require a formal qualification, simply a competent technician that has experience with the RRR (Recovery/ Recycle & Recharging) equipment is acceptable.

the recovery and charging of Greenhouse gases such as R134a, does require an F- Gas certification.

It is the workshops / body shops responsibility, to make sure that they employ or have trained technician that has been certified and assessed to Automotive F-Gas regulations, prior to handling a Cylinder of R134a Refridgerant
