Technicians belt up and learn for charity

Training initiative by motor factor Fast Parts Wales has raised over £3,500 in cash and toys for a children’s charity, with the help of local garages and drive systems parts manufacturer Gates.

“After building the dedicated training centre at our Abercarn site, we wanted to encourage garages to send mechanics to our training sessions and to value what we were doing, so we sold them non-refundable tickets. We told them the full face value would be donated to a children’s hospice,” says general manager Nathan Travis.

Based in Barry, Ty Hafan is a charitable organisation that offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people. It is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the whole family.

Fast Parts Wales has since staged three training sessions about timing belts and auxiliary belts in association with Gates, which is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of drive belts and tensioners.

Fast Parts Wales plans to continue the fund raising scheme during 2014 with other product group suppliers.
