OE plugs for VW Group come with innovative technology.

VW goes for downsizing. The latest engines of the manufacturer combine a compact design with a relatively high output. Because these engines types run at very high temperatures, specific spark plugs are needed.

Champion developed adapted 'sidefire' spark plugs with a reduced ground electrode length. These reduce the running temperature and allow for consistent ignition performance.

Furthermore a 'cup terminal' plug was designed. This plug has an extended insulator neck, a larger overlap, a countersunk compression spring and new contact technology.

The result:

  • Greater flashover resistance despite a higher ignition  voltage
  • Extended insulator with greater insulation surface, while keeping the same dimensions
  • More surge voltage protection: 8-9 kV
  • Application range up to 40kV  

Champion extends its coverage to 95%!

This month, the Champion spark plug range takes another leap. Champion have added 11 new plugs covering an additional 259 applications from VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Mitsubishi, Volvo, Chevrolet, Fiat, Ford, Lancia, Nissan, Opel/Vauxhall, Suzuki, Mercedes-Benz and Honda.

In this way, their total coverage is now 95% of the European vehicle parc. The new plugs use a variety of proven technologies like platinum, copper plus and multi ground electrode.
