Federal-Mogul friction product engineers worked closely with Knorr-Bremse and leading European commercial-vehicle OEMs to bring the benefits of ProTec S technology – including longer spring service life and quieter, safer and more efficient brake operation – to the Ferodo product line.

Unlike conventional caliper spring retention systems, which rely on a clamp for attachment to the brake pad, the ProTec S design features a direct, welded connection between the spring and back plate. This approach increases application force across the brake pad, resulting in improved guidance of the pad and reduced vibration and noise. The ProTec S design acts as a sliding device therefore it protects against abrasion caused by dirt between the spring and retaining clip and provides easier back-sliding of the brake pad away from the disc, which reduces idle wear. Also, with the spring pre-attached by Federal-Mogul, this design eliminates the unsafe practice of reusing old springs with new brake pads.
