Federal-Mogul Motorparts offers simple solution to a common problem with Mercedes-Benz ball joint dust boots
Bradford, UK Federal-Mogul Motorparts, a division of Federal-Mogul Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: FDML), has released its latest Easy Solutions Bulletin (ESB), highlighting inherent design issues with ball joint dust boots on popular Mercedes-Benz models. The ESB explains the common issues found in the aftermarket and offers garages a simple solution.
This particular issue detailed in the latest ESB affects a range of common Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including the S-Class (1998 – 2005), CLS (2004 – 2010), E-Class (2002 – 2009) and the SL (2001-2012). MOOG identified that when the ball joint oscillated to its maximum angle, the dust boot could come into contact with surrounding components and become damaged. This can cause water and small particles to penetrate the ball pin housing and lead to corrosion of the ball joint. MOOG has made improvements to its dust boot design to prevent this from happening.
Easy Solution Bulletins are monthly communications from MOOG that provide its customers with support and information on common issues found in the aftermarket. The free, one-page PDF highlights inherent design issues with the original part, such as metal fatigue or fitting issues, and the problems they can cause both the installer and the vehicle owner. The document outlines the changes MOOG has made to its own aftermarket products to rectify these issues and provide high-quality products that are easier to install.
