NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd is helping raise funds for a life-saving charity.

The leading supplier of original equipment spark plugs, glow plugs and NTK sensors has donated a trailer to be used to promote a charity that transports urgently required medical items to hospitals.

This service is provided completely free of charge, allowing the NHS to divert funds where they are needed most.

The trailer – in full NGK livery – is to be used by Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV) which answers between 5000-6000 emergency calls annually.

Tim Howes, Deputy General Manager – Supply Chain & Technical Service, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “We are delighted that we can help what is a fantastic, life-saving charity, at their fund-raising and recruiting activities which are held at a number of automotive events around the country.”

SERV was formed in the south of England in 1981, but has now expanded to provide its service right across southern England, from the Wash to Southampton. It is linked to a network of other similar ‘blood bike’ charities to provide a service across the whole country which transports urgently needed medical items such as blood, plasma, vaccines, X-Rays, scans and donor breast milk.

Tim Goodman, a fund-raiser for SERV in Surrey and South London said: “SERV has around 600 volunteers who provide their service free of charge. We deliver a variety of life-saving medical items in all weathers, mainly by motor cycle, but we also use cars, vans and 4x4s.

“It is fantastic that NGK has donated the trailer which will promote the charity at exhibitions and events around the country. It will be based at Guildford, but will also be available for other areas wishing to use it to promote their activities.”
