Offered by drive system repair specialist Gates

Two more ranges of kits for synchronous belt drive systems (SBDS or timing belts) and a further range of kits for accessory belt drive systems (ABDS) have extended the Gates range of solutions for drive systems repair specialists.

Gates ‘PowerGrip timing belt kits plus ABDS water pump’ is a range that gives installers the opportunity to replace water pumps driven by an ABDS drive but positioned immediately behind the SBDS while the SBDS is stripped down.

Vehicles such as Ford Fiesta 1.2 petrol, Volvo V60 1.6 petrol, Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 petrol and Vauxhall Meriva are typical examples of popular vehicles with engine designs that feature an ABDS‐driven water pump positioned behind the SBDS.

Installers can replace the ABDS‐driven water pump while the more complex SBDS layout is being upgraded.

The alternative is to have the SBDS stripped down for a second time, unnecessarily and at a significant cost to the garage customer.

Gates ‘PowerGrip kit plus water pump plus thermostat’ is a range that covers specific VW group models fitted with V6 engines and Vauxhall models fitted with four cylinder engines, where the thermostat sits directly behind the SBDS.

Typical applications include Audi A4, A6 and A8 as well as models from the Vauxhall Astra and Corsa ranges.

Gates ‘Micro‐V kit plus water pump’ boxes contain a multi‐ribbed belt and all the components necessary for the individual ABDS design, including the correct water pump for the application.

Models such as the Mercedes Benz A150 1.5 petrol), Volkswagen Golf 1.4 petrol and BMW 118d 2.0 diesel have ABDS-driven water pumps, as do many applications built by manufacturers including Renault, and Vauxhall.

The new Subaru spacer tool is a specialist tool developed by Gates to resolve issues experienced by installers when overhauling the drive systems of certain Subaru applications.

As part of the guide plate mounting procedure, a GAT0001 Gates spacer tool is inserted between the belt and the plate.

After tightening the bolts, the re‐usable tool can be removed thanks to a convenient ‘extension tab’, leaving the ideal clearance between the plate and the belt.

Gates says its “total solutions approach is helping to increase workshop efficiency and reduce the need for expensive job rectification work”.
