AT OULTON PARK
WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan endured a difficult weekend in the MSA British Touring Car Championship at his home circuit Oulton Park. Torrential rain during the two practice sessions on Saturday morning didn’t assist the team with the new Mercedes A Class set up.
The afternoon qualifying session, which is crucial on the notoriously tight and difficult track, took place on a damp rapidly drying surface. Adam began the session on slick tyres and changes to the car saw him hovering around the top ten with the WIX Racing Mercedes getting quicker and quicker. Unfortunately with 10 minutes remaining and whilst on a personal best Adam’s wheel spinning car suddenly found grip and span him out of contention. A red flag was shown and Adam was not allowed to take any further part in the qualifying session. By the time he was recovered to the pits the track had dried further, he could only watch as the majority of his rivals posted faster times leaving Adam starting from 25th on the grid.
“I was gutted to be caught out by the conditions” said Adam “The team had made significant changes and I was just starting to explore the cars limits when I unfortunately found them! This is going to make tomorrow tough but we do have good pace in the car and the engineers have had a chance to collect valuable data in the wet conditions. It’s not ideal but as always we will do our best”

In the first race Adam soon managed to slice his way through the field up to 18th but he was then held up behind the Ford Focus of Jack Clarke for 6 laps until the finish. In the second race of the day Adam was able to get into the points and into 14th when the slightest of contacts caused damage to his WIX Racing Mercedes and he was forced to retire with only 1 lap remaining.
The Final race of the day was held just after a massive cloud burst. Adam started from 25th on the grid, due to his retirement in race 2, but scythed his way up to 17th and was again forced to hold that position to the line. “This new International track layout has made it very difficult to overtake slower cars” commented Adam “we have found good pace and made massive improvements with the WIX Racing Mercedes handling but unfortunately the implemented change turned the race into a procession and I just couldn’t overtake. I am disappointed to be leaving with no points for the first and hopefully last time this year but improvements have been made and the car was again just getting better and better”
Norman Burgess, Commercial & Marketing Manager stated “Things don’t always go to plan for any team and there is always a bogey round! Adam has scored points at every round until this weekend and the car has only failed to finish in one of 12 races and that was due to contact. The hospitality side of things was again great fun and a good time was had by our VIP Guests and the team members. We are all really looking forward to the next round where we will hopefully again be back up at the sharp end fighting for points.
Adam collected the most points in the Jack Sears Trophy by improving his start position by 15 places during all three races, the best of the entire grid, leaving him 6th in the table. Adam is now joint 14th in the Drivers’ Championship, 11th in the Independent Drivers Championship and the WIX Racing team are joint 5th in the Independent Teams Championship
