Scrappage scheme misleading as car prices jumpFrom ADF ebulletin: The car scrappage scheme may have revived interest in the new car market, but consumer magazine Which? Car has found that some manufacturers have raised their list prices by as much as 14% meaning buyers are often no better off. VOSA meets ADF CV group
The ADF’s CV section committee has met with with representatives of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), the body responsible for MoT testing, vehicle safety and operator licensing.
Alison Martin and Andrew Tudor have special responsibility for product recall procedures and discussed the methods and problems involved in recalling vehicles and other related products when safety issues were involved. Training key says Manbat
Manbat has reported significant sales growth in the UK aftermarket.
Increasing sales of OE brand Varta, along with its own brand Numax, and the expansion of the leisure sector account for majority of the gains, however without training, the picture would be far less rosy says the company. Delphi reaffirms commitment to aftermarket
In a letter to UAN and its members, Delphi vice-president Lucia Veiga Moretti has underlined Delphi's commitment to the aftermarket, as the company entered into negotiations with BeijingWest Industries for the sale of its global suspension and brakes business.
Moretti said: "We remind you, however, that Delphi Product and Service Solutions (Delphi’s Aftermarket Division), remains committed to its braking, steering, suspension and shock absorbers products for the aftermarket. DPSS continues to expand its Original Equipment product offerings including Air Conditioning, Vehicle Electronics and Diagnostics & Technical Support portfolios for the independent aftermarket. Cats regulation set for 13 August
FROM the ADF: After many months of delay, and much irritation for aftermarket suppliers and factors, the Department for Transport (DfT) has finally confirmed the date for implementing EU regulations here in the UK.
From 13th August 2009 regulations controlling sale and installation of replacement catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for motor vehicles (cars and vans) and catalytic converters for motor cycles will come into force, and will be legally binding from that date. EU Regulation No 715,2007 had been expected to be implemented by January 2009, but DfT had not even started the consultation process by then. Read More.. News
First corporate manslaughter case gets under way
The first Corporate Manslaughter case under the new legislative framework is now under way at Bristol Crown Court. Peter Eaton, a director of Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings, is charged with corporate manslaughter following the death of junior geologist Alexander Wright last year. Mr Wright was extracting soil samples whilst excavating a pit when the sides of the pit collapsed and he was crushed. Read More..

UK Batteries to bring back brands
Three UK battery names are set to make a dramatic return to the aftermarket after UK Batteries revealed it has acquired the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands.
Although the origins of the brands stretch as far back as the 1920s, it was during the 1970s when they achieved heavyweight status. Under the representation of the British Battery Manufacturers Society (BBMS), the Oldham, Tungstone and Crompton brands were three of the five names that commanded around an 85% share of the UK battery market. The first Commercial Vehicle Operator Show will open at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham on Tuesday 13 April next year.
