Manbat promotes Varta
Manbat is running one of its largest ever Varta promotions in August, offering distributors extended credit, increased discounts and the opportunity to obtain Varta branded clothing, dependent on the number of units ordered from the battery distributor. TFL sets record straight on LEZ
SMMT's Transport News Brief has heard that some operators thought that Transport for London (TFL) had dropped its policy of a 28-day grace period after a vehicle was first spotted in the LEZ. SMMT contacted TFL and the response was: 'TfL's policy of issuing only warning letters to operators of non-compliant vehicles the first time they are seen within the Low Emission Zone will be in place throughout the life of the scheme. The policy has worked well in the months since the scheme started and TfL is very pleased with the levels of vehicle compliance. Read More..

As of Friday 4 July 2008, Gates has withdrawn further supply of all its products to GP Automotive Ltd. MFG branch manager receives MBE
Motor Factors Group branch manager Satbir Giany (pictured) has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Giany, only 36 and a father of three, has been a voluntary police officer since 1989 and is a Chief Special Constable for the Hampshire Special Constabulary. He spends on average close to 100 hours a month in charge of 400 officers, dealing with 999 emergency calls and anti-social behaviour. Read More.. News

Quinton Hazell plays Q-PID
Quinton Hazell has launched Q-PID Live! an online version of its Q-PID CD, which allows users to look-up QH parts using a vehicle's VRM or Vin details. Q-PID Live! is free to download and use, but if distributors choose to use it with the VRM or VIN lookup there is a charge for each look up (tokens can be purchased via the website). If users decide not to purchase VRM Tokens then they can still use Q-PID Live! Changes to number plate legislation
UAN approved supplier Bestplate has informed the group of the following changes to current numberplate legisation: 1. From the 1st August 2008 the Register of Number Plate Suppliers will be extended to Scotland and Northern Ireland. The play on words said it all for one UAN distributor, who spotted this 'interesting' advert for Air Asia, promoting one of its destinations Phuket, home of the 2008 UAN incentive trip. The upcoming UAN incentive trip looks set to be the group's biggest yet, with dates for the trip confirmed as 14 to 21 March 2009. UAN CV supplier European Braking Systems (EBS) , Abal has appointed Paul Johnson as product development and purchasing manager.
Johnson started his career at Trailercraft (Bradford) in 1986, before moving to Abal in 1996 as technical warehouse manager, before moving into product development and sourcing. He left Abal in 2007 but is delighted to have returned to the company in his new role, which will see him explore product development, sourcing, stock control and purchasing. Read More.. News

Elta aims to light up sales
Elta Lighting has launched a new Lucas Single Box stand (pictured), capable of contain more than 200 bulbs.

UAN makes changes to sales team structure
UAN has made significant changes to its sales team structure, designed to provide distributors and suppliers with greater support and resources from the group. The changes will see four territories created and mean UAN's four strong team will cover both car and CV groups. The sales team and territory changes are as follows: Kevin Davison, UAN Business Development Manager North Stephen Hague, UAN Business Development Manager Midlands Dave Hardy, UAN Business Development Manager South Rod Edwards will also cover car and CV distributors in the south while occupying a new role of Field Support Manager, working with UAN BDMs, distributors and suppliers throughout the UK and Ireland. Two UAN distributors; BJ Ashpole (Bishops Stortford) and S & W Services (Bradford), have been highlighted in a Mintex roll of honour celebrating 100 years of the friction brand. Both distributors have been acknowledged for their support of Mintex for more than 30 years.
